Welcome to Sharon's Big Goose Pagoda photos

The Big Goose Pagoda is a Buddist temple, one still used today. The history is that the monks were starving, and asked Buddah for some meat. A goose suddenly fell from the sky at their feet, dead. While it ate well, the monks felt really bad and became vegetarians from that time on at this temple. Only the temple is original, the other buildings were re-built between twenty and two years ago. The gardens were beautiful, even in late winter. You can climb the stairs, many of them, to the top if so inclined. Our tour did not have time, so I missed those photos of Xian from the top.

The gnarled trees and manicured gardens were reall gorgeous. I'd love to see the place in late spring, full bloom.

I assume this is Kuan Yin rather than the Virgin Mary...

Xian is famous for the red lanterns; the gnarly trees were neat
