Welcome to Sharon's Tiennamen Square photos

Tiennamen Square is the largest gathering square in the world, it can hold over 20,000 people.
On one side is the Chinese History Museum, Mao's Tomb, The great meeting hall that holds 10,000 people,
and the Gate of Heaven leading to the Forbidden city.

Most people remember the square as the site of student demonstrations, with the famous young man in front of the tank.

The Chinese History Museum. The large sign in front is a count down to the Olympic opening date.

One of the two statues in front of Mao's Tomb. You are not allowed to take photos or any personal items into the tomb.
He lies in state in a crystal vault (so I heard, I did not have time to get in the LONG line for entry).

Mao's Tomb to the left, Meeting Hall ahead. Notice the Military Police, there were many of them on the Square.
They do not like being directly photographed.

Red flags are everywhere, along with speakers and lights
